Discipline

Some years back I made a poem titled Control. It was one of my earlier works and you can tell my relationship with control at the time. Though for now, I want to focus on one part of the poem.

"Controlling your self to be your best self. Though all you control is how destructive your outburst will be."

I confused holding yourself back with being disciplined. In holding yourself back, you don't allow yourself to authentically be. Hiding what could serve others and what others could find beautiful about you. While being disciplined is shaping yourself into what you want to be. The same way a sculptor shapes a slab of marble into a beautiful sculpture.

In reflection of my own discipline, I remembered that line and wanted to give my updated perspective.

(Also, while giving my updated perspective, I would replace the word mastery with flow in that same poem.)
